Euro Velo 6 (EV 6) is also known as the Rivers Route. It is a cycle route that is part of a Europe-wide bike path development programme.
Over a distance of 3,653 km, it connects Saint-Nazaire in France to Constanta in Romania. The route crosses Central Europe, from the western shores of the Atlantic to the Black Sea, following the courses of the three largest rivers in Europe: the Loire, the Rhine and the Danube. It runs through 10 countries in turn: France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania.
Crossing through Franche-Comté on a bicycle is a wonderful experience, because the Euro Velo 6 cycling route has been fully developed and is extremely well marked out. The countryside is beautiful in green, and bicycle tourists particularly appreciate the bike trail between Besançon and Baume-les-Dames.
